The Wyoming State Society was well represented in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past week as the University of
Wyoming basketball team competed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years.
Three members of the WSS made the long trip to the Land of Enchantment and Green Chili to watch the Cowboys
play first and second round games in the annual Big Dance.
Many people in Albuquerque noted that this was at least three more attendees than could be boasted by the Utah State Society. Utah members blamed their lack of representation on the fact that their school was busted out of the tournament in the first round, but WSS members were not fooled.
"I think it's because they have a natural fear of travel," WSS member Joe Milczewski said.
"I saw people from Hawaii and even Vermont there to see the Cowboys, but I sure didn't see any Utah folks."
The Cowboys won their first tournament game against Gonzaga, surprising the national media by posting a 73-66
victory. They were then ousted in the second round by the University of Arizona, a team that benefitted from some downright criminal officiating in the second half.
"Those refs better watch out," Milczewski said. "I'll cut their eyeballsout if I see them
again."
