The first COWPIE, held in 1977, began the longest living tradition of the Wyoming State Society. Wyoming folk get cowboyed-up in their best boots, hats and big belt buckles for the night of country dancing, mechanical bull riding, drinking and western revelry. Dedication to COWPIE among the Wyoming folk is legendary. COWPIE has been bigger in the 2000's than it ever was in the eighties or nineties in terms of people attending. The event is so big that it was covered by the Washington Post just a couple of years ago. It was also held on the National Mall at the base of the Washington Monument last year to celebrate the 30th Annual COWPIE. Tickets sold out in days and nearly 500 people celebrated Wyoming into the wee hours of the night.
